The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
