The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
