The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
