The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
