The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful

Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
