The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
