The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
