A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
