The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
