He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
