The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
