Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 How tremendous is the true event! 2 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast]. 5 And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 Now dost thou see any remnant of them? 8 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, 9 When they disobeyed the apostle of their Lord He seized them with an overwhelming punishment. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 and the heavens will be rent asunder, 16 and the angels [will appear] at its ends, and above them, eight will bear aloft on that Day the throne of thy Sustainer's almightiness… 17 You will then be set before Him, and not one of you will remain unexposed. 18 Those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their right hands will say, "Come and read my record. 19 I was certain I'll be given my account." 20 So he will be in a pleasant life - 21 In a lofty Paradise, 22 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. 23 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did beforehand in the days gone by. 24 But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger, 25 And I had not known what my account was: 26 Oh! Would that the death that came to me in the world had made an end of me! 27 My riches have availed me not; 28 [and] all my power of argument has died away from me!" 29 The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, 30 Then cast him to be burnt in Hell; 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 for he did not believe in Almighty God, 33 and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
