The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
