The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
