The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
