The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
