O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do. 51 Your nation is but one nation, and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me. 52 But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. 53 So leave thou them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Think they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We provide them 55 We are hastening to reward them for good deeds? No. They do not comprehend. 56 Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 And they who believe in the signs of their Lord 58 and who do not ascribe divinity to aught but their Sustainer, 59 and who give whatever they [have to] give with their hearts trembling at the thought that unto their Sustainer they must return: 60 It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 Aye! their hearts are in bewilderment in respect thereof, and they have works beside that, of which they are workers. 63 Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication! 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 “My verses were recited to you, so you used to turn back on your heels.” 66 and arrogantly mocked and reviled them. 67 Have they not pondered the matter, or did that come to them, which did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or is it, perchance, that they have not recognized their Apostle, and so they disavow him? 69 Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth. 70 Had the truth followed their fancies, the heavens, the earth, and all who live in them would have surely been corrupted. No, We brought them their Remembrance; but from their Remembrance they turn away. 71 Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. 72 But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way; 73 But those who do not believe in the Hereafter have indeed deviated from that path. 74 ۞ Were We to be merciful to them and remove from them their present afflictions, they would persist in their transgression, blindly wandering on. 75 Already have We grasped them with punishment, but they humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray, 76 until We opened the gate of greater torment (death) and they suddenly found themselves in despair. 77
