He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
