The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
