Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
