The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
