The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
