They will question thee concerning Dhool Karnain. Say: 'I will recite to you a mention of him. 83 We established him in the land and gave him means to all things. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 until he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for whom We provided no veil against it to shade them. 90 This indeed was true. We knew all that he did there. 91 Then he followed a road 92 when he reached between the two barriers he found on one side of them a nation who could barely understand speech. 93 They said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them? 94 He said: "The ability my Lord has given me is better. So help me with your manual labour; I will build a wall between you and them. 95 “Give me sheets of iron”; until when he had raised the wall equal to the edge of the two mountains, he said, “Blow”; to the extent that he made it ablaze – he said, “Bring me molten copper to pour upon it.” 96 So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly. 99 On that Day We shall lay Hell bare before those who deny the truth, 100 whose eyes had been veiled against Our Quran and who were not able to hear (its recitation). 101
