Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
