Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
