The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
