The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
