Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
