The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ How far, how far, is that which you are promised. 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 He said: 'Help me, Lord, they belie me' 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 They therefore said, “Shall we believe in two humans like ourselves, whereas their nation is servile to us?” 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
