So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time? 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 [Or do they deny the existence of God?] Have they themselves been created without anything [that might have caused their creation]? or were they, perchance, their own creators? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord, or have they been given charge of them? 37 Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt? 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Do they design evil plans? The disbelievers themselves will be snared by their evil plots. 42 Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)! 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 the Day when none of their scheming will be of the least avail to them, and they will receive no succour. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not.
