The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe." 1 Only they are true believers whose hearts fill up with awe when the name of God is mentioned; and their faith is further strengthened when His messages are read out to them; and those who place their trust in their Lord, 2 Who are firm in devotion, and spend of what We have given them, 3 It is they who are the believers in truth. For them are grades of dignity with their Lord, and Forgiveness and a generous provision (Paradise). 4 EVEN AS thy Sustainer brought thee forth from thy home [to fight] in the cause of the truth, although some of the believers were averse to it, 5 They disputed with you about the truth after that had become evident, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open. 6 And lo, God gave you the promise that one of the two [enemy] hosts would fall to you: and you would have liked to seize the less powerful one, whereas it was God's will to prove the truth to be true in accordance with His words, and to wipe out the last remnant of those who denied the truth 7 and that He might verify the truth and prove untrue the untrue, though the sinners were averse to it. 8 (Remember) when you sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): "I will help you with a thousand of the angels each behind the other (following one another) in succession." 9 God has sent this glad news to comfort your hearts. Victory is in the hands of God alone. God is Majestic and All-wise. 10
