The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
