The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
