The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Beneficent Allah, 1 has taught the Qur'an, 2 He created man. 3 He has taught him speech (and intelligence). 4 The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning, etc.). 5 And the stars and trees prostrate. 6 And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 7 That you not transgress within the balance. 8 And observe correct measure, weigh with justice, and not cheat the balance. 9 And earth -- He set it down for all beings, 10 There exists all kinds of fruits, palm-trees with sheathed blossoms, 11 And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created the human being from clay like that used for pottery 14 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 Lord of the East and Lord of the West. 17 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 18 He has set the two oceans in motion, converging together. 19 and yet there is a barrier between them which they may not overstep. 20 (Jinn and mankind) - which of the favors of your Lord do you then deny? 21 Pearls and coral-stone come forth from them. 22 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 23 And His are the ships going and coming in the seas, like mountains. 24 Which of the favours of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 25
