A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
