a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
