The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray, 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
