In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
