Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
