The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
