The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
