The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
