He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
