The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
