He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
