The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And at daybreak a determined punishment came upon them. 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
