He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
