Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden. 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
