Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
