Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O the contented soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
