The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
